Hey one of my sister's best friends is fighting our Nazi principal. He is making a documentary on homophobia and the principal will not let him use it for a senior project. Go to this site and vote for it.

It is on this contest:

Vote for the video that makes a difference! From now until 12:01am on December 2, 2006, you have the chance to help pick our top video. The grand prize winner will receive $100,000 in cash and an additional $15,000 to donate to the charity of his or her choice. Two finalists will also receive $10,000 a piece. The awards will be presented at a screening event in Los Angeles in December.

I was poking around over at Witchvox earlier this evening and was reading the articles in the "gay" section. There are about 25 of them from the past five or six years. All of them seem to deal exclusively with Wicca and its everpresent gender-based dualism. I don't resonate with the binary. My spirituality is about more than breeding and being the "nurturer." We may all bear spiritual/magical children, but my spiritual life is not defined by my breasts and vagina, nor are the mysteries I pursue. I genuinely have no interest in "women's mysteries" that are all about menstruation and birthing, and I never have. Trying to fit everything into that overarching dynamic is as oppressive in its way as stereotyped gender roles in western secular society.

As some of you may be aware, one of my goals in life generally, but both academic and spiritual life in particular, is to increase the knowledge and popularity of a particular Irish narrative, found in as venerable a manuscript as the Book of Leinster, but also found in Liber Flavus Fergusiorum and in a later version in Leabhar Cloinne Aodha Buidhe, which is usually given the title "Niall Frossach" after the primary character concerned (an historical Irish king of the 7th century) who in the various annals has miraculous rains associated with his birth, and in the only other narrative concerning him (in the Fragmentary Annals) was portrayed as quite pious.

Therefore, behind the cut for the benefit of those who could care less, is the full text from the Book of Leinster version (I have not been able to see the LFF version), followed by David Greene's translation from the Swedish journal "Saga och Sed," from the year 1976.

Here's something I'm doing in Seattle on February 2nd.

Spirited Discussion -

Policians, activists, thinkers and religious leaders from diverse traditions join forces in conversation on Feb 2nd, from 7-10pm in the Richard Hugh House Cabaret.

Panelists include -

Revere Monica Corsaro, co-chair, Religious Coalition for Equality
Reverend David Strong, Community Church of Joy
Erynn Laurie, respected Druid scholar
Timothy O'Brien, Board President, Multifaith Works
Robert Raketty, Writer, Seattle Gay News
Representative Ed. Murray
Mike Whitty, Founder, Live and Let Live Project

The event is a fund raiser for the film "Chicken and Egg; Queer Spirit in Action" - a documentary profiling the activities of the Religious Coalition for Equality (a multifaith coalition fighting for GLBT rights) and exploring the political, social, and spiritual meanings of unity across lines of gender, sexuality, and faith.

Hor d'oevres, dessert, and coffee will be provided.

The film is a project of the Seattle LGBT community center, a 501C3 organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.

For more information or to RSVP Corinne Mignon at (206) 851- 6852 or write to cfpenny @ blarg.net
